Welcome to WORKSPACE

About This Wiki

This is the how-to page of workspace. Wikis are a way for a group of people to collaborate on-line. Wikis are pretty simple. However, there are a couple of things you should know.

This wiki has been set up as a place for students to collaborate with other students on group projects. Below are some things you should know about this project and about wikis. For example, not everyone can see this wiki and only some can add or change things. You are in that group.

  1. What is a wiki? If you go to this link, it will take you to the most famous wiki of them all, Wikipedia, for a definition and history of the wiki.
  2. How do I add/edit my writing? Your writing page is already assigned to you. Simply navigate to your assigned writing page and click on Edit this page. Type your essay into the text box as if it was a word processor. DO NOT cut and paste it in from your word processor as that makes your essay unreadable. REMEMBER TO PUSH SAVE. You can preview the page before saving by clicking on Preview. Also, you can see revisions of every page by clicking on Old revisions.
  3. What if I want to make a page? Put the name of the page you want into double square brackets like these
[[Name of a page I want]]

and save your edit and click on that red link. Then, follow the directions on that new page or ask me at xopc29@gmail.com. If you e-mail us about anything with this wiki, please include all the details you can. You can also click on

    .

  4. How do I edit and change my pages? If you are a registered user, you just have to click on the Edit this page button at the bottom of a page. There will be no edit button if you don't have permission to edit. Even if you do have permission to edit, please be thoughtful and kind. Once you click the edit button, you will see a text box and some convenient formatting buttons at the top of the text box. Do not forget to save your changes and put some information as to what you did in the box called Edit summary at the bottom of the text box.
  5. What if I get really good a the wiki and want to learn and use a quicker way to format? Go to this link to learn about wiki formatting and syntax.
  6. How do I find my way around? You can look in the left sidebar to see if there is a link to a page. You can follow the breadcrumbs listed after Trace: near the top of the page. You can look within the body of a page to see if there is a link there. Green links are to existing pages; red links are to pages that are waiting for content (to be created). You can use the search box at the top of the page. You can click on Recent changes to keep track of recent changes :-).
  7. What happens if I make a misstake mistake? It can usually be fixed.
  8. Where can I go to practice wiki syntax, formatting, and other things? You can go to the playground.
  9. What happens if I am inappropriate, malicious, destructive, pornographic, or link to bad sites? 1)
